Spencer came home with this in his "keep at home" section of his folder. Evidently they read this book at school and he was asked to write an answer to THIS question: "How and why do Sam's feelings about his money change during the story?"Spencer's reply....
"Sam's feelings about his money changed in the story. at the beginning of the story, Sam has $4 he can spend any way he wants. Sam thought about spending his money at the bakery or the toy store. If somebody gave me four dollars, I would blow it all on candy. Most people want to keep their money for themselves. (insert here from mom...Spencer is JUST THE OPPOSITE. He pretty much keeps his money and when he DOES spend it, he spends it on OTHERS!)
At the end of the story, Sam gave his money to a homeless man. When Sam saw the man's bare feet he learned that he was the lucky one and gave his money away. I know how Sam feels about wanting to help people because I gave money to Haiti where there was an earthquake.
Using your money to help other people is the right thing to do."
